in reply to: Still can’t do toe stand after 3 years #2886
Hi Gabrielle,
Wow you must have magic running through you! I can’t wait till Monday to drop my hand towel. Sometimes we have to check our ego at the door ( no full splits for a while ). I will totally give it a go…my instuctors will be shocked. Thank you for your wonderful (warm, strong and inspiring) energy.

Amandain reply to: Still can’t do toe stand after 3 years #2880I’ve been practicing for 4 years but I’ve never worn shorts. I wear capris and my foot has never slipped. Maybe it’s worth a shot to try this simple change and maybe it’s just the slippery leg that’s keeping you out of toe stand. I also use a small hand towel for standing bow and I’ve been in a full split for years. Maybe I’m cheating but I love all the postures and want every bit of benefit I can squeeze out of them!!
Namaste, Amandain reply to: So what do you wear? #2882I’ve always worn capris. It helps so much to eliminate the ‘slip’ factor. Maybe some day I’ll try shorts but I know I’ll slip and slide out of toe stand, tree etc. I remember a student that learned the hard way why we don’t put Nivea lotion on our skin before we practice. She bent over to grab her heels and down came the shorts. Slid right off her behind!! You know what was really cool though? She just moved to the back really quickly so she could continue this posture without mooning everyone behind her. It reminded me about what my instructor said once. “Fall out of a posture and your a human. Get back in and you’re a yogi”.
Namaste,
Amandain reply to: About this balancing stick posture #2881How about just working into this posture by increasing the angle every class. Tilting forward at the nearest angle that you feel all of those back, shoulder, glute, hamstring muscles working-and hold it for the 10 seconds. Next class increase the angle toward the floor a bit more. Next class a bit more etc. Hopefully we will be in a Bikram studio regularly for the rest of out lives. We have plenty of time to work into these postures and aclimate to them.
