in reply to: Recommended hot yoga mat #8039
I have one of those too. I had a cheaper one and I found by the end of the class, it was compacted down to nothing on the floor. This one keeps a bit of cushion between me and the floor. I use the yogitoes towel over it.
in reply to: Hot yoga and now behind is gone = ( #7964A friend commented on mine that my bottom was where it was suppose to be lol.
in reply to: Hot yoga and now behind is gone = ( #7959Interesting because its given me a curvy waist. My behind is smaller but still there.
in reply to: help with creating heat #7931IN a pinch, I’ve practiced in my bathroom. I can get it hot and steamy pretty easily.
Ontario. My fav teacher of all time teaches at KW some weekends 🙂
in reply to: So what do you wear? #7914My DS is a swimmer and when he goes he wears his swim suit. The ones he gets have very little stretch because lycra gets eaten by pool chemicals. He puts his bits between his legs (ahem). The trick to a speedo type suit is to get it really small. TMI but hey, I know the tricks from the swim world. Most guys wear ‘speedp’s way way way too big.
in reply to: Cold Sore and Hot Yoga #7910I had a really big juicy one on the skin between my nose and lip last week. I just kept going. I think it didn’t get as big and scabby as they normally do because of the sweating. Then again, it wasn’t on my lip. Interestingly enough, it popped out during yoga. Yeuch. I just hate them.
in reply to: hypermobile joints? #7870I’m quite a mess lol. My knees are sore and have been for ages regardless of what exercise I do. Sports med doc told me running would be fine (used to be hard core runner) but it REALLY hurts my knees/ankles so I have to take what she says with a grain of salt. I find even though I’m quite flexible, my muscles compensate and get tight. I’m finding with hot yoga, its seems to be balancing things out a bit.
I just finished day 13 of my challenge. I’ve been concentrating on tightening my quads vs locking my knees because I can lock my joins without tightening my muscles if that makes sense. My upper body really feels a lot stronger from the challenge. I like the strength component of hot yoga. I did power yoga for a while and the room was freezing and it didn’t quite feel right.
I have another appt with the sports med doc early november after the challenge. We shall see what she says then. So far, her suggestions were running and pilates. I’ve toyed with the idea of swimming but swimming has occasionally popped my toes out of joint even gong back to when I was a kid. Swimming and winter are a big old yuck too.
in reply to: Pain in outside of hip #6512I went for a massage today and she said she could feel the spot. She said is a minor muscle that is tight (I forget what she called it). She didn’t have any good tips on stretching it. I need to find something because its really painful and getting in the way of me doing the standing single leg poses.
in reply to: Pain in outside of hip #6509Sorry, I should have been more descriptive. Its my standing leg and yes, its pretty much as soon as I have my other leg off the floor. I don’t know that part of my anatomy all that well so describing where it exactly is tough. Its the outside of my hip and goes slightly below my cheek but its more hip than top of leg. It is equally as painful on both sides of my body. Flexibility wise, I could in theory get my leg out straight in front of me but my standing leg prevents it because of the pain.
in reply to: Diminishing Gains doing the same thing: #5951Happened to me yesterday too. My studio has lines on the floor where your suppose to put your mats so people don’t so this but I got behind a guy that did exactly that and was on 7 feet tall. So annoying. He was in a different spot today. Go early and get yourself a good spot 😉
in reply to: How much does everyone sweat? #5932I’ve stood in the front from my second class but on the side by a wall. I like being in the corner. I don’t like looking myself in the eye but I like not having anyone in front of me.
in reply to: How much does everyone sweat? #5912I also have extremely sensitive eyes (eye surgery as a kid) so I know that is part of it. I end up closing my eyes to try and keep the sweat out but it even leaks in and I keep hearing the instructor say open your eyes. Is eye closing for that purpose really counter productive?
in reply to: How much does everyone sweat? #5901My issue with sweating is when I’m doing standing forward bend or anything of that ilk. The sweat runs into my eyes and BURNS. Any suggestions for dealing with that?
